As the 6th generation of the 2nd-oldest family-owned brewery in the country, August Schell Brewing’s Brewmaster, Jace Marti, has been named as an Emerging Honoree for 2018 by Twin Cities Business. Each year Twin Cities Business’ editors and correspondents generate a list of 100 names broken down into multiple categories. The list represents key influencers and leaders in Minnesota business that will make a powerful impact in the year to come. Twin Cities Business describes the Emerging Honorees as leaders or influencers new to a role, whose early efforts will be closely watched by the business community.
Jace Marti had a big year in 2017 with the opening of the Starkeller Brewery, an idea formed behind his creations of the Noble Star Series of berliner-weiss sour beers. On their website, Twin Cities Business goes on to state, “Jace Marti represents the sixth generation of the iconic August Schell Brewing, and, like his father, he’s taking the brewery to new levels. Marti is the mastermind behind Schell’s Noble Star collection of Berliner Weisse sour beers, which he learned to brew while studying techniques in Berlin. In March, Marti’s sour series got its own taproom in New Ulm with the opening of Starkeller Brewing Co., a subsidiary of Schell’s. It’s the first sour-only brewery in Minnesota, but it likely won’t remain so, with sours quickly gaining popularity. In the long run, it will be Schell’s traditional German-style beers that will set it apart.”
